Dr. Crum has a broad range of interests in physical acoustics, including acoustic cavitation, medical ultrasound, and ocean ambient noise. His current studies include sonoluminescence, sonochemistry, cavitation inception, diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, and acoustic hemostasis. He has published over 150 articles in scientific journals, presented over 200 papers at professional meetings, and serves on the editorial board of several journals. He is a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, has served as president of the Acoustical Society of America, and currently is president of the Board of the International Commission on Acoustics. Dr. Crum was awarded a Doctor Honoris Causa from the Universite Libre de Bruxelles in 1997 and was elected an Honorary Foreign Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Bashkortostan Republic in 1998.
