Computing Support Consultant

The Applied Physics Laboratory's Distributed Computing Services group (APL/DCS) has openings for a 19-1/2 hour student position. APL/DCS serves
(a) nine subnets in four buildings; (b) approximately 600 Macs, PC, and Unix/Linux Workstations on these subnets; (c) a set of Linux machines that provide network, mail, print,
and compute services; (d) a Help Desk to assist about 350 users with their networking and computing needs.
The students we hire will be responsible for answering user questions, installing computers on subnets, maintaining printers and documentation, and other computer-related items
such as installing hardware and software. Most work will be done 8 AM 5 PM, but some help may be required after hours and weekends.
The students we hire must be computer literate at the "expert-user" level or above. We are looking for students with Mac and PC experience. Linux/Unix is a plus.
The students we hire must also have good oral and written communication skills.
Students must be available to work 12 to 19.5 hours per week, between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
(If funding is available and there is a department need, students may be able to work up to 40 hours/week during quarter breaks and Summer Quarter.)
