David Jones is the Principal Investigator for several related projects that investigate the information needs of decision makers. These projects include the Environmental Visualization Project (EVIS), a multi-institution and multi-disciplinary project sponsored by ONR's Future Naval Capability program, which blends meteorology, computer science, and cognitive science in the goal of creating new tools to aid naval strike warfare decision-making; the MURI (Multi-disciplinary University Research Initiative) on uncertainty in mesoscale meteorology; and the Boater Information System (BIS), a Washington Sea Grant-funded project to improve the use of environmental information by Puget Sound boaters. David Jones joined the Laboratory in 2000 after serving as a Naval Meteorology and Oceanography officer for 21 years.
