During his tenure of almost 30 years at APL-UW, underwater acoustics has been the central theme of Dr. Mercer's research. His studies have covered the spectrum from basic research to advanced applications. He has authored or co-authored scores of scientific and technical publications and has served as Chief Scientist on numerous at-sea expeditions.
He currently leads a team of scientists and engineers at APL-UW and frequently shares PI responsibilities with Drs. Robert C. Spindel, Bruce Howe and Robert Odom. Jim Mercer is a member of several professional societies, has served on many national committees, and is currently an Associate Editor of the U.S. Navy Journal of Underwater Acoustics.
