Dr. Sue Moore joined APL-UW on a two-year appointment (under the Intergovernmental Personnel Act) from her position as Director of the National Marine Mammal Laboratory (NMML). Her appointment to APL-UW is an opportunity for her to work with ocean acoustics scientists and others in the Laboratory to advance understanding of acoustic effects and climate change on marine mammals.
She has been the NMML Director since 2002. That Laboratory is responsible for conducting research on marine mammals important to the mission of the National Marine Fisheries Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, with particular attention to issues related to marine mammals off the coasts of Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and California.
