GLMPC combines the functions of several discrete yet complementary tools.

Communications
Two-way communication of instructions to the glider from the user and communication of the data from the glider back to the user. This subsystem is flexible yet robust. The data communication between the user and the glider can be synchronous or asynchronous via several types of protocols including telephone modem or smtp email.

Mission Planning
Uses map displays and geographical information system (GIS) tools as a means to view the overall planning of a glider mission, analysis of mission data in terms of their geographical relationships, and analysis of navigational questions.

Visualization
Creates data views of glider data. These data include engineering information from the glider's internal components and scientific data collected by the glider's sensors.

Data Storage and Server
Provides a location for saving the glider mission data, the post-processed data, and the ancillary geographical data needed for pre- and post-mission analysis.
